The Athens stock market is moving steadily upward, heading towards the completion of September, which is expected to be a positive month, despite the negative trend in Europe. The General Index is trading at 2,733 units with a 0.8% increase, reaching new highs for the year and the past 17 years.
The trading volume exceeds €217 million, with €43.9 million in 25 packages, and the volume reaches 30.7 million units. The banking index is strengthened by 1.2% to 3,343 units, the FTSE high-capitalization index is moving at 7,023 units with a 0.9% increase, and the FTSEM medium-capitalization index is at 3,097 units with a 0.5% increase.
Despite the selective movements of investors and the change in the oil price trend, which has caused international nervousness, the Athens market does not seem to be affected and is heading towards a strong finish in September, possibly with new highs. The strong two-day period on Friday and Monday has already put the General Index in positive territory for the month, traditionally a difficult month for markets, with gains of 1.22%.

The sector leading the movement, both today and in general, is the banking sector, with the market seeing several non-banking blue chips, primarily DEI and Coca-Cola, contributing to the upward trend. The sector is led by the banks, with two smaller banks having better returns.
Credia continues from where it left off yesterday, with a new jump of 3.3%, accompanied by Optima, which is also strengthened by 3.2%. The systemic banks are led by Piraeus with a 2.3% increase, while Eurobank is strengthened by 0.4%. The Cyprus bank is differentiated with a -0.3% decrease.
Further impetus to the General Index is given by Coca-Cola and DEI, both with gains of around 2%, while Aegean is also strengthened by 1.4%. On the other hand, AKTOR is declining by 1.3% and Motor Oil by 1%.
