Western Yilgarn has pinpointed seven priority gold targets close to Glenburgh, Western Australia, and will commence soil and rock-chip sampling to evaluate the exploration prospects of the region.

Seven sites under the microscope

The effort will concentrate on targets GB_01-GB_07, delineated through interpretation of airborne magnetic, radiometric and gravity datasets. Western Yilgarn (ASX:WYX) intends to examine each zone to decide which merit advancement to drilling. Evaluation will consider interpreted shear zones, structural intersections, magnetic lows, potassium anomalies, quartz veining and favorable Dalgaringa Supersuite lithologies.

Non-executive director Pedro Kastellorizos remarked that the recent work by Core Geophysics yielded seven well-defined targets. “The work completed by Core Geophysics has provided the Company with seven well-defined structural and geophysical targets, several of which are characterised by coincident shear zones, structural intersections, magnetic responses and potassium anomalism.” He further noted, “This regional setting, combined with the scale of the structural corridors identified across our tenure, provides Western Yilgarn with a compelling opportunity to systematically test an underexplored part of the Glenburgh Gold District.”

Although all seven zones will undergo testing, the company will initially prioritize GB_02, GB_04, GB_06 and GB_07, where several exploration indicators overlap. Soil samples will be collected both across and perpendicular to the interpreted structures, while rock-chip sampling will target promising outcrops such as quartz veins, alteration zones, shear zones and lithological contacts.

Among the prospects, GB_04 is notable for extending roughly 4 km along an interpreted east-west shear zone and aligning with a discrete potassium anomaly. GB_07 spans about 3 km on another interpreted east-west shear corridor, intersected by northwest-trending structures, and lies close to an interpreted monzogranite contact, accompanied by mapped dolerite dykes, quartz veins and a distinct potassium response. GB_06 merges an interpreted shear zone, a northwest-oriented cross-structure and a subtle potassium trend, whereas GB_02 features three pronounced northwest-southeast magnetic anomalies and a zone previously noted as lacking geochemical sampling.

When assay results become available, Western Yilgarn intends to integrate the geochemical data with its magnetic, radiometric, gravity and structural models. The most significant overlapping anomalies will then be ranked for follow-up infill sampling, detailed mapping and, ultimately, potential first-pass drilling.

Western Yilgarn’s licences E09/2986 and E09/2987 are situated approximately 11 km south of Benz Mining’s Glenburgh operation and fall within the same extensive Dalgaringa Supersuite framework. Glenburgh currently hosts a 16.3 Mt mineral resource grading 1.0 g/t Au, equating to about 510,000 oz of gold. Benz is exploring the district on a broader scale, describing roughly 80 km of strike and, in June, outlining a conceptual Exploration Target of 485-540 Mt at 0.6-0.7 g/t Au, corresponding to an estimated 10.1-12 Moz of gold.
